Application scope of metal spiral wound gaskets with inner and outer rings

The material of metal spiral wound gaskets can automatically adjust the pressure, thermal cycling, and vibration of piping systems, making them particularly suitable for locations with uneven loads, prone to joint force relaxation, periodic changes in temperature and pressure, and exposure to impact or vibration. They serve as the original static seal for flange connections in gate valves, pumps, heat exchangers, towers, inlet holes, handholes, etc., and are widely used in sectors such as petrochemicals, machinery, power generation, metallurgy, shipbuilding, pharmaceuticals, nuclear energy, aerospace, and more. In the design of flange gaskets, to facilitate installation, 2 to 8 positioning bands are welded around the gasket according to its specifications and size, allowing the positioning bands to latch onto the flange holes and preventing the gasket from shifting or falling off during installation. This generally saves auxiliary materials and labor hours and can be categorized as follows: Internal and external metal spiral wound gaskets are made by alternately overlapping and spirally winding SUS304 and SUS316 ("V"-shaped or "W"-shaped) metal strips and other alloy products with soft materials such as graphite, asbestos, PTFE, and non-asbestos. The metal strips are fixed by welding at the beginning and end. Spiral wound metal gaskets are elastic gaskets among semi-metal sealing gaskets. The structural density of internal and external spiral wound metal gaskets can be manufactured according to different clamping force specifications, and the clamping degree can be controlled by the inner and outer steel rings. The surface accuracy of the flange sealing surface in contact with the internal and external spiral wound gaskets produced by manufacturers is not high. Internal and external metal spiral wound gaskets are particularly suitable for locations with uneven loads, prone to loose connection forces, periodic changes in temperature and pressure, and exposure to impact or vibration. Spiral wound gaskets are the original static seal for flange connection solutions in gate valves, pumps, heat exchangers, towers, inlet holes, handholes, etc.

 

The basic type of metal spiral wound gasket is a widely used sealing gasket. It is an elastic gasket among semi-metal sealing gaskets, made of V-shaped or W-shaped thin steel strips and various fillers. It can withstand heat and high pressure and is suitable for standard applications at low temperatures or in vacuum environments. By changing the material combination of the gasket, chemical corrosion issues from various substances on the gasket can be addressed. Its structural density can be manufactured according to different clamping force specifications. To reinforce the main body and ensure accurate positioning, spiral wound gaskets are equipped with metal inner reinforcing rings and outer positioning rings. The inner and outer steel rings are used to control their clamping degree and seal the flange in contact with the gasket.
